New Mexico just signed into law a bill that repeals the death penalty in that state. Bill Richardson, although believing that the death penalty is an acceptable form of punishment, said that he signed the bill because of the recent numbers of inmates being cleared because of DNA evidence influenced him that.

This is an addition to the 14 states that don't offer the death penalty and a handful of other states considering abolishing the death penalty. Thank goodness for progressives!

This reminds me of my trip to the state capitol (Austin, TX) to lobby for comprehensive sex education. I was coming out of a representative's office with my lobby group when we ran into some other lobbyists. those other lobbyists were actually lobbying for abolishing the death penalty in Texas. TEXAS!
